I was honoured to receive the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers Association (MRMTA) Holtby Scholarship. I am and will always be immensely grateful for this award as it encourages my musical studies. Music is my passion and I have been lucky enough to study piano with Ms Jane Petroni, MRMTA member, for the past 8 years. It is very inspiring to be part of a community that encompasses so many incredible teachers.
Music education should be placed on a pedestal in our society and the MRMTA is greatly contributing to this goal. I have participated in MRMTA events such as the scholarship competition and the Musicthon, which were very positive experiences. I enjoy learning from a wide range of masters, and look forward to the MRMTA-organized masterclass with Jon Kimura Parker in September. It is opportunities like these that can really enrich a student's path.
I am thankful for this scholarship as I begin the 2017-2018 musical year. I am planning to perform my ARCT performance exam, as well as three RCM theory exams (studying with Jane Nicolas). I will be participating in the Winnipeg Music Festival, the University of Manitoba Prep Studies Concerto Competition, the MRMTA scholarship competition and the Canadian Music Competition. It is heartening to know that as I enter this busy year, I am being supported and encouraged by the MRMTA through the Holtby Scholarship.
I would like to thank the MRMTA and congratulate the other recipients of this scholarship.
